What Can Guitar Pedalboards Teach Us About Business?

Transcript: Hey everybody! Jonathan here. So I was recently helping a friend with his guitar pedalboard, I don’t know if you've ever seen one of these before, it’s kind of a “show-and-tell” today. Really, it's a way for guitarists to have an input through all these different effects and go out to their amp to change the sound.

There's all these different components, you know, you've got overdrive, or harmony or tremolo, delay. All these different things that affect the sound. of your guitar. But it really depends on how clean the signal path is. So it's a very clean tone all the way through to the amplifier before the listener gets to enjoy it. And, you know, another thing about pedalboards is making sure everything is tidy and clean in the back. Not only just on the front. but also in the back. Make sure all these audio cables and power cables are organized in a way, so it's predictable, when you get to a gig, you just kind of take it out of your board or take your board out and just plug it in and go.

And I actually was thinking about this in terms of business, and it might be a silly analogy, but it seems like in business, and as we're consulting and talking to different clients, you think about the “signal path”, right? Going from leadership all the way through all the different components, departments, teams, and being able to have a clear output. So, when it's amplified in the marketplace, what you put in, it's as clean of a tone. let's say, as what comes out. And then not only is the message amplified, but it's also organized in a way and takes a lot of planning to do that.

And so think about your communication, you think about planning, strategic planning, communicating it out, in between your departments as well as to the marketplace. Anyway, a little show-and-tell thought you guys might enjoy the analogy. I hope you're having a great week!
